  • Board certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Edie Zusman treats patients with brain tumors, epilepsy, cerebrovascular diseases, and spinal disorders. She is recognized nationally for her neurosurgical expertise and leadership in health systems.
  • Dr. Zusman’s research interests are in brain tumor and epilepsy tissue bank analysis, and determining the role of viral DNA in the development of gliomas and epilepsy.
  • She has lectured nationally on new radiosurgery and photodynamic techniques to treat epilepsy. Her expertise in this area and leadership of the Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, CA led her program to be ranked among America’s Best Hospitals in neurology and neurosurgery, by U.S. News & World Report.   
  • Widely acknowledged as an expert in healthcare forecasting and the impact of vertically integrated health systems, Dr. Zusman champions the benefits of population health measures and disease prevention strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health systems.
  • Dr. Zusman is the Neurosurgery Lead for the Sutter Neuroscience Research Consortium.

Training

Dr. Zusman received her M.D. in the Honors Medical Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, followed by residency training in neurological surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. She received fellowship training from legendary neurosurgeons, Dr. Nicholas Barbaro and Dr. Charles Wilson in epilepsy surgery, brain tumor surgery and molecular medicine research at the University of California, San Francisco.
