Improving the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders (pancreatic disease, biliary complications)
  • endoscopic view of the ileum

An underwater endoscopic view of the ileum (third portion of the small intestine). Dr. Shah and colleagues at CPMC are pioneering new endoscopic technologies to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders.

Research Overview

  • A recognized leader in interventional endoscopy, Dr. Shah’s clinical interests are endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), pancreaticobiliary endoscopy, endoluminal stents, endoscopic mucosal resection, and new endoscopic technologies. He is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.
  • In collaboration with CPMC clinicians Drs. Kenneth Binmoeller and Yasser Bhat, Dr. Shah performs interventional endoscopy procedures as part of the Interventional Endoscopy Services (IES) Program at CPMC—the premier referral center in Northern California for patients requiring complex endoscopic therapy.
  • Dr. Shah has authored numerous publications on advanced endoscopy, and he is a recurring lecturer at national gastrointestinal meetings and courses.
  • His research is aimed at interventional EUS and pancreaticobiliary endoscopy.

Dr. Shah received his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, MA.  He completed residency training in radiology at Bridgeport Hospital (Yale Affiliate) in Bridgeport, CT, and in medicine at the Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Shah conducted fellowships in general gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at the University of Pennsylvania.
