Institutional Review Board

California Pacific CURRENTS: The online journal of CPMC Research Institute

The California Pacific Medical Center Institutional Review Board (IRB) holds the primary responsibility for the oversight of the protection of human subjects recruited to participate or actively participating in research projects conducted by or under the auspices of California Pacific Medical Center. The IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in or disapprove research and serves an important role in the protection of the rights and welfare of human research subjects.

Every research study involving humans must be approved prior to initiation, and then reviewed at least every year, or more often as indicated, by the IRB. The IRB's primary responsibility is the protection of human subjects from undue risk and from deprivation of personal rights and dignity.

The Sutter Health Institutional Review Board (SHIRB) is now the regulatory committee for human subjects’ research being conducted at Sutter Health's CPMC and all Sutter facilities.

Studies at CPMCRI can be facilitated via SHIRB: Please contact David Gill for more information, at
